As countries seek to transition to new, environmentally friendly pathways of socioeconomic development, trade has become a critical driver of the sustainability transition. This is particularly true for developing countries, which can use trade to access the goods and technologies to green their production systems while gaining access to new sustainable markets for their companies.
In this context, the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) through the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE) Trade Project, organised the ASEAN Sustainable Trade Webinar Series. Conducted over June and July 2026, the series brought together regional experts and practitioners to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the transition, with a focus on how these dynamics are materialising across ASEAN countries.
Formae supported ITC in delivering the inaugural and third webinars of the series. The first explored the role of SMEs in climate action and the links between sustainability, trade and competitiveness; the third examined how circularity is reshaping trade and value chains in ASEAN, and how MSMEs can improve resource efficiency, strengthen sustainability practices and respond to evolving market expectations. The two workshops have brought together over 100 practitioners from the region, demonstrating how trade can unlock more inclusive and sustainable development pathways in the block.
Together, the two webinars brought together more than 150 practitioners from across the region, demonstrating how trade can help unlock more inclusive and sustainable development pathways in South East Asia.
